FPCW in The Community

Mission Statement

Reflecting the love of Jesus Christ, We encourage all church members to give their time, talents, and treasure; to support mission projects of the First Presbyterian Church of Wildwood

James 2:15-17.

Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

NOVEMBER MISSION PROJECT

The Wildwood Police Department is sponsoring “Wildwood’s Thanksgiving Celebration” for Sumter County residents on November 23rd at the Wildwood Community Center. They are providing a Thanksgiving Dinner along with family fun activities such as music, a bounce house hayride, corn hole, face painting and more.

Our Mission Team contacted them and we are assisting them with  the festivities. We will be supplying the plates, napkins, and utensils for the dinner. For the month of November, we are asking the congregation to bring in cans of soda and juice boxes for the celebration. If you would also like to join the fun, we will need volunteers to staff our “Thanksgiving Scoop-A-Duck” game booth. There will be a signup sheet in church.

Let us share our blessings with others this Thanksgiving!

In June, a couple Mission team members met with the Principal of the Wildwood Intermediate School to determine how our church might assist them.  We learned they needed a "clothing closet" for kids either inappropriately dressed or having an emergency and in need of clean clothes.  During September and October, we collected items for both boys and girls, in various sizes.  These items included shirts (short & long sleeve), pants (long & short), undergarments, socks, belts, fleece jackets, and 27 pairs of sneakers!!  Several team members sorted the clothing by type, gender and size, which will be delivered to the school within the next two weeks.

THANK YOU SO MUCH to our generous congregation!  Love INC also made a clothing donation! 383 items were received at an approximate value of $1,728.00 dollars!!!!

Angel Tree

A Christmas Story – The Angel Tree

Kim Stuchell began the Christmas Angel Tree project in 2005 with Dr. Rev. Daniel Clow, one of our former ministers. To this day, we are the only group that does anything to give these kids a better Christmas than they might otherwise have. The prep work for the Angel Tree begins in the fall when Kim contacts a state organization that works with foster children that have specific medical needs in Lake, Sumter, and Marion counties. Many of these children were born to addicted mothers, leaving them with numerous health issues and/or disabling conditions. She requests wish lists from the children that are usually received in mid-November. "I am a huge kid at heart when it comes to Christmas. I believe that every child should be able to experience the magic of the season and what the true meaning of Christmas is: the spirit of giving; not just gifts, but the love of Christ." One thing Kim also does is give each child a book of The Christmas Story. When the Angel Tree is set up in early December, there will be cards on the tree with wish list items from the children. There are also cards for monetary gifts if someone is unable to shop for a gift. This project is very dear to Kim's heart - if anyone has any questions about the Angel Tree, she would be happy to talk with you!

“Things We Take For Granted”

“The Things We Take For Granted” was a great success!! FPCW members contributed approximately $2,037 of personal hygiene items to the House of Hope, Forward Paths and The Haven. The majority of items were divided between Forward Paths and The Haven, with a smaller percentage going to the House of Hope. (They currently have a very small group of men they are assisting and have no storage space while their facility is being built.)  Hotel sized items that were donated were given to the Soup Kitchen for them to give out.

The Mission team thanks everyone for their very generous support!!

Souper Bowl 24

"Souper Bowl 2024" First Presbyterian Church of Wildwood collected over 1300 pounds (1586 cans) of canned soup for Our Mother of Mercy food Pantry in the Clow Center.

Snack Pack Donations 5 -23

FPC of Wildwood has donated the equivalent of over 10 shopping carts full of nutritious snacks for the Wildwood Soup Kitchen snack pack program. The Soup Kitchen is partnering with Wildwood Schools to provide snacks packed in backpacks, that are sent home with children from food-insecure families. In addition to the snack program, the Wildwood Soup Kitchen provides over 1400 meals per week to local families, which First Presbyterian supports with monetary donations.
